What’s wrong with the VPN industry?

Whoever has been following us for a while, knows that we are suspicious of the dubious and shady business practices in the VPN industry. Just recently, we were proven right in our concerns, when a whistleblower revealed that IPVanish, claiming to be a “no-log” provider actually did log user activity. Furthermore, published court records show that they did cooperate with the government, while they were falsely claiming that they wouldn’t.

However, IPVanish is most probably just the tip of the iceberg. High competition in the VPN market leads to more and more companies engaging in marketing based on false claims, bought reviews and aggressive affiliates.

While we are not at all surprised about IPVanish’s wrongdoing, this is still bad news for our industry. The most important asset is trust. When providing such sensitive services like VPNs, users must have a guarantee for highest possible privacy and security. VPN providers may be a user’s single point of failure. That’s why we started out in this industry. We want to provide the privacy that other services should have offered. Hopefully, no more people will be hurt by shady marketing strategies, as at worst, some people’s lives may depend on it.
