How to keep your data safe in a coworking environment

In a coworking environment, sensitive data like passwords, trade secrets and project information are at higher risk. Here are a few things you can do to protect yourself:

  1. Find a seat with your back to the wall or shelf.
  2. Never ever leave your device unattended. It costs less to take it than to lose it.
  3. Use full disk encryption and different password protection on all your devices.
  4. Don’t exchange USB-sticks with parties you don’t know.
  5. Always use a VPN when connecting to a public WLAN.
  6. Perform regular scans for viruses and trojan programs.
  7. Disable auto connections to WLAN networks
  8. Disable file sharing on public WLAN.
  9. Do not allow external drives to be connected to your computer.

Clearly, not all of the mentioned risks are equally likely. However, it’s better to be safe than sorry, and the cost of protection is small compared to the potential loss of your device or personal data.
